Gainesville, Florida |
Gainesville is the largest city in Alachua County . House prices have dropped rapidly in the past few years, so it is a good time to buy in Gainesville since over half the population opts to rent instead of owning houses. The median home cost remains somewhat below the national average. The area between historic downtown and the University of Florida is planning to be gentrified to encourage migration to high rise apartments. The city prides itself in historic preservation hence the abundance of historic sites and restored homes.
The east side of Gainesville consists of an African-American community whilst the west side consists of white students and residents. 9% of the city is foreign born and 87% speak English at home. Students account for half of the town's population as the largest university in the state is based there. Due to this, many people choose to rent out and share flats with others for convenience and safety reasons. Thousands of people commute every day so there is a rising problem regarding traffic and it takes majority of people, fifteen to twenty minutes a day to travel to work. Some choose to stay in hotels, such as the Dulles Hotels, during the week and commute home on the weekends to save on fuel, money and time. Furthermore, Gainesville has a low cost of living and you don't have to pay state income taxes.
